Cuprisetta propanii (four sub-species: Isadora, Jessique, Kattaya, Letitia) is a sculpture inspired by pipefish, specifically designed for a short, narrow space above a double door frame.
The fish have been formed from recycled gas BBQ burners, with heads made from old laboratory glassware. The tail and pectoral fins were made from copper patina’d in an ammonium / salt chamber to colour the metal a range of striking blues.
Each of the head-pieces contains a miniature LED underpowered and sited in the diffused section of the glass. Isadora has a white LED, and Kattaya, Jessique and Letitia have green, pink, and blue LEDs respectively. The inside of the burners contain strings of underpowered filament bulbs to give off a subtle interior glow.
The fish are mounted on aluminium tubing in a forest of zinc-metal seaweed, in turn attached to a heavy aluminium base containing the drive circuitry. It is powered by a recycled, fused 19.5V laptop supply.
